Silverudd’s Blue

Silverudd’s Blue is a compact, cold hardy, alert breed that is the only natural layer of a green egg. Hues range from dark olive, green with brown speckles, to mint. They will contribute 180-200 green eggs a year.

Silverudd’s Blue (BBS) comes in Black, Blue and Splash and does not breed true. We breed with all three colours, and have a large diverse flock.

Silverudd’s Blue is a petite bird by design, with dark, almost black eyes. They are keenly aware of their surroundings, excellent foragers and are happiest when given lots of room to forage. The roosters are non-aggressive and friendly.

the history

Our lineage is composed of genetics from the original lines imported into the USA.  Actively breed for size, vigor and vibrant contrast. This is very much a labor of love breed, and one we are very passionate about preserving. Our genetics are grounded in the compact size intended for this breed as well as the correct beak and leg colour.  It is important to note that the Silverudd’s Blue does not have an official standard of perfection, their likeness to standard is solely in the hands of the folks invested in breeding them and aware of what Martin Silverudd’s origin goal was. We are registered breeder members of the Silverudds Blue Preservation Group. Educating and showcasing this breed on our farm is a true honour.

Martin Silverudd, was responsible for the creation of this breed; however he passed before he could complete his work which caused confusion when it came to naming them. They were mistakenly called Isbar Blues (even though Isbars are an established breed in Sweden) when imported but in 2016 they were renamed in honour of their creator. The Silverudd’s Blue has been captivating and confusing people ever since.
